...I sent this as a broadcast ICQ too...

I have a couple hunts I want to do that need audience participation...

1) Fire Beetles - I need one, but can't tame & fend off area spawn (Yomatsu Elders, Priests, Shadow & Earth ele's).  I'll tame one for anyone who wants one with stipulation that everyone stay to fend off spawn until everyone has a beetle. Probably need at least 2-3 others. I was thinking of maybe doing it today, or maybe one evening this week. Let me know if you want to go so I know if I have enough to make a hunt of it.

2) Paragon Ore Elementals - the basic idea is that we take a few miners and several "bodyguards" out to Ilshenar with a bunch of Gargoyle pickaxes and try to dig up paragons. The goal: (a) try to get a chest that matches the elemental (i.e. Valorite Chest from Valorite Elementals), (b) a use for gargoyle picks & prospector tools, and (c) can always use ingots. I have 100 or more picks and plenty of BOD's to get more. Same for prospector tools. Let me know if you're interested.

Let me know and i'll set them up.

OK, I have enough to do the fire beetle hunt...probably two if we wanted to. I have put it on the calendar for tomorrow (Tuesday 02-MAY-05) evening around 8pm PDT.  I was going to go scope out the spot tonite so I can let everyone know what to expect and establish a game plan.  Anyone who wants to go with is welcome...maybe try to tame one while there.

ICQ me if you want to go.

Ok. So the trip to scope out the fire beetle spawn was interesting.  It is a bit hairy to say the least.  There were 4 of us and it took about 75 minutes to get the spawn under control, get everyone rezzed and get a beetle beat to submission without killing it before we finally got one tamed.  So, everyone that can go please do.  It will probably take as many as we can get just to keep everything under control and keep the deaths to a minimum.

For those who have never been down there, here's the scoop:  The spawn area is clear at the end of the "maze".  There are a number of baddies all along the way, that get more 'formidable' as you make your way thru the maze.  Best tactic is to pretty much run all the way to the end.  Use your radar to help get thru without turning into a dead-end.  There are a number of Yomatsu Warriors, a Yomatsu Priest and (I believe) a Yomatsu Elder that all spawn in the "room" where the beetle does.  They all hit pretty hard and the priests & elders cast a lot.  And they're all pretty fast.  The beetle can hit pretty good too and ranged attacks cause it to speed up and chase the ranged attacker (archers & mages use caution).  EV's tend to rip through the beetles to quick, and since Pub 31's 'adjustment' they are tough to dispel and end up killing the beetle.  Blade Spirits seem to work better as they don't beat it down to quick and dispel much easier.  Swordsmen/Fencers can beat them into subjugation fairly easily, provided they aren't being beat to hell by the Yomatsu.

One other note: the beetle takes 3 control slots, so bring a mount that takes 2 slots or less and is bonded.  Ethy's are probably best.  The dungeon has a Ilshenar type "No Recall" rule.  You can recall out, but cannot recall in or gate at all.  So once we get one tame, whoever it is transferred to will need to mount it and recall off the sub-server so that the next one will spawn, then head back and help beat everything down until we've tamed one for everyone.

It's a bit more involved than I originally expected, but it'll be a lot of fun.  Needless to say, everyone that goes will definitely earn thier beetle!

ICQ me if you want to go.

I took my paladin archer out last night, which didn't work all that well. All of the creatures were no problem alone, but as soon as I got targetted by several critters I couldn't heal fast enough to stay alive. Everything has a range attack too (the warriors have throwing axes). Also, quarters are a little tight (note also that I'm not the best dungeon PvMer around, so if you are good in a dungeon you might have better luck than I).

I left and came back with my Mage (Ashe, the clumsy mage in fact ). That seemed to work a little better. Being able to drop EVs and invis (or hide, since Ashe has hiding, which is good since he is very clumsy) is a decent tactic.

The Priests and Elders are nasty casters. My pally archer has almost GM meditation and I was getting poisoned a lot. Something I'm not used to (and thus, am not very good at timing my cleanse by fire to go off).

A hint for the Yamotso Priests. They polymorph. I got attacked by one when it was a Gaman. The nice thing is, it didn't cast when it was a Gaman. So, they are less of a threat, assuming you can avoid meleeing it. I would recommend taking out the priests first (unless they are polymorphed) and then the warriors.

If I show up tonight, it will be late, but I will try and be there. As challenging as it was, it was also a lot of fun. And, I owe Rufus since I got the only beetle we manged to tame last night .

Well if I can make it I'm going to bring my GM Fencer.  He has GM Hiding as well and high healing for helping rez and cross healing.

Melee will be harsh but it's my best character for the type of PvP at the moment.

I think if we can stick close together so we can cross heal we will be ok.  We just need to make sure we have enough bandages.
